Motorola has carved out a significant place in the global smartphone market, largely thanks to one standout aspect of many of its recent devices: impressive battery capacity. However, being a one-trick pony isn’t enough—there’s far more that users look for in a phone these days.
Why Battery Capacity Still Tops the List
From a recent poll of nearly 1,050 respondents, a compelling 95.46% of users ranked battery capacity as either "The most important thing" or "Pretty important" when choosing a phone. Specifically, 33.05% called it the most important feature, and 62.18% viewed it as very important. Only a tiny fraction had little to no concern about battery size.
These results align well with expectations, especially considering devices like the Moto G57 Power, which emphasize impressive battery sizes. But the interesting part lies in the fine split of opinions among the top two categories, an outcome that encourages Motorola to keep innovating across multiple fronts—not just battery prowess—to compete with giants like Samsung and Apple.
The Quest for a Well-Rounded Phone
Many users are now hunting for a "jack of all trades" smartphone that delivers beyond a long-lasting battery. The brand responds to this with a versatile lineup available at different price points. To understand what else phone buyers value, another poll was launched, asking, "What else is important to you besides a phone’s battery size?"
- Camera performance – 24.73%
- Software support – 21.51%
- Screen quality – 17.2%
- Build quality – 12.9%
- Screen size (the bigger, the better) – 7.53%
- Raw power – 6.45%
- Charging speeds – 5.38%
- Thin profile – 4.3%
Total votes: 93
These results show that while battery is critical, users also highly value camera quality, solid software support, and a great display.
More Than Just Massive Batteries
Motorola doesn’t just focus on battery size. For example, the Moto G57 Power combines a robust 7,000mAh battery with a smooth 120Hz display and fast 30W charging, all packed into an affordable device. On the other hand, the premium Edge 70 offers a slim 6mm profile with a still-impressive 4,800mAh battery—a remarkable engineering feat that balances power and sleekness.
Ensuring a phone meets multiple criteria while remaining reasonably priced is a tough challenge. Yet, Motorola manages to strike a notable balance, often setting devices like the Edge 70 and Moto G57 Power apart from their competitors by combining strengths across several categories.
Marketing: The Missing Piece for Motorola’s Growth
Despite these impressive features, Motorola remains less prominent than some of its rivals. The major obstacle? Marketing. Increased brand visibility and stronger advertising efforts could propel Motorola’s excellent product lineup to greater mainstream success.
Besides practical features like battery life, camera, or software support, many buyers are influenced by brand image—whether a phone is considered "cool." Motorola’s reputation still lags behind some competitors in this regard. However, initiatives like the Razr portfolio and the stylish Edge series are gradually improving its cool factor.
