With T-Mobile keeping details under wraps for its Un-carrier event scheduled for tomorrow, new clues on its website have sparked speculation about the upcoming announcements. Two prominent possibilities include the launch of a same-day delivery service and an expansion of its watch plan offerings.
T-Mobile's First Un-carrier Event of 2024
T-Mobile's CEO, Srini Gopalan, teased the event’s tagline as "It's about time" and hinted that the focus will be on resolving a major wireless pain point. Industry watchers and The Mobile Report suggest the addition of same-day delivery and in-store pickup options could be a central highlight. These features suddenly appearing on T-Mobile's platform point towards an imminent launch, possibly going live as soon as the event.
Additionally, T-Mobile currently allows customers on select premium plans to add a watch line for $5 a month. It is anticipated that this option could be expanded to all customers, broadening access to connected wearable devices.
Scaling Back the Drama: A Low-Profile Event?
Compared to previous Un-carrier announcements—which reshaped the wireless landscape with innovations like no-contract plans and tax-inclusive pricing—this event might not introduce revolutionary changes. Both AT&T and Verizon already offer same-day delivery options, placing T-Mobile in a position where it needs to keep pace rather than lead.
To further simplify customer onboarding, T-Mobile aims to boost usage of its T-Life app, which has surpassed 85 million installs and counts 20 million monthly users. The carrier envisions a future with more self-service options, reduced reliance on physical stores, and fewer customer care calls.
What Are Customers Hoping For?
While T-Mobile recently outpaced AT&T and edges closer to overtaking Verizon as the largest US carrier by subscriber count, many loyal customers feel the company has drifted from its original value-driven appeal. Priced affordably compared to Verizon, T-Mobile’s offerings are seen by some as less compelling than in the past.
