After a prolonged three-year legal conflict involving allegations of trade secret theft and patent infringement in OLED technology, Samsung Display and BOE have reached a settlement, paving the way for a resolution of their dispute.

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) recently announced that the case has been officially suspended. While the exact terms of the agreement remain confidential, industry insiders indicate that BOE has consented to pay royalties to Samsung Display for the use of its OLED-related intellectual property.

Previously, BOE faced a potential 15-year preliminary ban on its OLED display imports into the United States following findings of violations under the US Tariff Act tied to unauthorized usage of Samsung’s trade secrets. As a major player in the display manufacturing sector and a crucial supplier to leading smartphone companies such as Apple, Huawei, vivo, and Oppo, this ruling had significant implications for BOE’s market access. The recent settlement and suspension of the ITC case are expected to restore BOE's ability to import OLED panels into the US market.
