Samsung Prepares to Launch Galaxy Glasses as First True XR Eyewear

Following the recent debut of its Galaxy XR headset, Samsung is reportedly gearing up to introduce a groundbreaking new product in the XR category: a pair of advanced smart glasses. Industry sources suggest these Galaxy Glasses will arrive as early as 2026, marking Samsung’s entry into wearable XR eyewear.

The upcoming device is believed to carry the model number SM-O200P. Unlike the Galaxy XR headset—which uses an “I” in its model designation—the “O” in this identifier hints at a novel form factor distinct from traditional headsets, reinforcing the shift towards glasses.

Samsung’s Galaxy Glasses appear to be designed along similar lines to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. Rumors indicate that Samsung plans to launch a screenless version first in 2026, focusing on smart functionality without an integrated display, followed by a more feature-rich model with a screen in 2027.

A standout feature of the initial Galaxy Glasses model is the inclusion of photochromic lenses, commonly known as Transitions lenses. These lenses darken automatically in sunlight and clear up indoors. Since Transitions is a trademarked technology by EssilorLuxottica—the same company behind Ray-Ban—it remains to be seen whether Samsung will actually license the genuine Transitions lenses or use their own similar photochromic solution.

The Galaxy Glasses will come equipped with a built-in camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity, much like Meta’s offering. However, Samsung appears to be going one step further by including mobile data support, enabling connectivity without dependence on a paired smartphone. This would provide a more independent wearable experience.

Samsung has already secured the trademark for “Galaxy Glasses,” pointing to strong confidence that this will be the device’s official name. While the launch is confirmed for the US market, details about a wider global rollout have yet to surface.
