Google Maps for Android is set to introduce a new power saving mode that will work independently of your phone's power saving options. This mode was discovered in the latest beta release of Google Maps for Android.
The power saving mode can be activated by pressing your phone's power button. Once activated, the interface becomes monochrome and extremely minimalistic, displaying only essential information such as the arrow, ETA, remaining time, and distance left. The mode supports walking, driving, and two-wheeler directions.
It is unclear if the power saving mode will also support public transit, as the interface is currently in an extreme state of minimalism. However, audio output will still be available, making it potentially useful for reducing distractions while driving at night.
