YouTube has recently rolled out a new feature that automatically upscales low quality videos that are below 1080p resolution using AI technology. Initially, the upscaling will start from SD to HD, with plans to eventually reach up to 4K resolution in the near future.
This enhancement is specifically designed for viewing on TVs, with a "Super resolution" descriptor displayed under each resolution option when the feature is enabled. Creators have the option to choose whether or not to utilize this upscaling tool.
Additionally, YouTube has increased the thumbnail file limit from 2MB to 50MB, allowing for the creation of high-quality 4K-resolution thumbnails. Users can now browse through YouTube channels with immersive previews on the homepage, and a new Shows design enables creators to curate their videos into binge-worthy collections for a seamless viewing experience on TV.
Contextual search functionality is also being introduced for TV users, where searches initiated from a channel page will prioritize that channel's videos at the top of the results. Moreover, QR codes will soon be available to quickly access product pages on mobile devices for items featured in videos.
These upgrades are being specifically tailored for TVs, as they represent the fastest-growing platform for YouTube viewership.
