Google bragged about the durability of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, highlighting features such as an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, a new hinge, and a larger battery with Qi2 charging. However, these claims were put to the test by YouTuber Zack Nelson, known for his channel JerryRigEverything.
Pixel 10 Pro Fold experiences battery explosion in durability test
Pixel 10 Pro Fold suffered a snap at one of its antenna lines during the test, resulting in damage to the device's battery. This damage led to a short circuit and a fiery thermal reaction, causing the battery to explode.
This incident marked the first battery explosion in the ten-year history of durability tests conducted by JerryRigEverything on YouTube. Nelson has a track record of testing a wide range of smartphones over the years.

Nelson pointed out that the failure was easily foreseeable as Google had not addressed the weaknesses identified in its previous foldable devices. He highlighted that both the original Pixel Fold and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold had similar vulnerable antenna lines. He compared the Pixel 10 Pro Fold to a third Death Star with a comparable exhaust port.
Pixel 10 Pro Fold did not pass the sand test in JerryRigEverything's assessment. Despite the IP68 rating, tiny particles managed to infiltrate the hinge, resulting in crackling noises. Nelson suggested that perhaps only the display was truly dust-resistant, not the hinge.
Calling the Pixel 10 Fold extremely durable is an affront to tech enthusiasts everywhere.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold was labeled as "the weakest folding phone" ever tested by Nelson. This outcome was a far cry from the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 by Samsung.
