Apple discourages the use of T-Mobile's satellite data feature for iOS apps

T-Mobile is now offering satellite data support for a select few iOS apps, in addition to Android phones. With the recent release of iOS 26, certain apps like Apple Compass, Apple Fitness, Apple Maps, Apple Messages, Apple Music, and Apple Weather can now utilize satellite data through T-Mobile's network. However, Apple is displaying reluctance towards this feature, as they are encouraging users to rely on the iPhone's built-in satellite capabilities instead of using T-Mobile's service. Despite T-Mobile's efforts to optimize more apps for satellite data usage, Apple's limitations on the use of third-party satellite features remain in place.
Apple now lets you turn off carrier-provided satellite features.
reminds users that even if their service provider offers satellite features, they can still use the iPhone's built-in satellite features instead. Its website has been updated to inform users that carrier-provided satellite features can be turned off in the Settings app.
T-Mobile's Starlink-powered T-Satellite features are mainly available to customers on specific plans, with additional charges for others. Apple's limited satellite capabilities, which focus on emergency services and messaging, are currently only compatible with newer iPhone models in select regions, further contributing to the discouragement of using T-Mobile's satellite data support.
