Apple has introduced faster charging capabilities in their latest iPhone models - the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and 17 Air. These new models can reach 50% battery in just 20 minutes, with the iPhone Air requiring 30 minutes to reach the same mark. However, the catch is that Apple has designed these fast chargers in a way that may render older USB chargers incompatible.
The official specifications reveal that the 20-minute charging time is achieved using Apple’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max. While the naming of the charger leaves much to be desired, the key difference lies in the use of Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS) protocol instead of the older Programmable Power Supply (PPS). AVS allows the device to request specific voltage levels, making it ideal for high-power devices like the new iPhones.
