Elon Musk Considering Acquisition of Verizon in Future

If Verizon ever decides to sell itself, one potential customer could be Elon Musk. SpaceX, in partnership with T-Mobile, utilizes spectrum to bring connectivity to areas without terrestrial towers through its Starlink satellites. Recently, SpaceX has agreed to purchase spectrum from EchoStar for nearly $17 billion, enabling high-bandwidth connectivity to phones.

During an episode of the All-In podcast, Elon Musk mentioned that the acquisition of EchoStar's spectrum would lead to the development of phones capable of utilizing the new frequencies within the next two years. Additionally, SpaceX is working on building satellites that can communicate on these frequencies, potentially allowing Starlink to expand globally.

When asked about the possibility of purchasing Verizon to acquire more spectrum, Musk did not dismiss the idea, hinting at potential future plans in the telecommunications industry.

While Verizon is currently not up for sale and remains financially stable, Musk's interest in assuming a larger role in the smartphone market is evident. SpaceX is also exploring partnerships with telecom companies, with reports suggesting a potential spectrum lease to T-Mobile in the future.
