Exciting New Google Maps Feature Unveiled for Android Users

Source: Date:
Good news for Android users! Google Maps for Android is set to introduce a new feature that will ensure you never miss a turn again. Some Pixel and Samsung users running Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 have already spotted Google Maps Live Updates notifications on their devices. These notifications will appear on the notification bar and lock screen, providing real-time updates on your navigation.
With Android's Live Update, users will receive notifications that show small icons or progress indicators on the status bar. Pulling down the notification shade will reveal the full Live Update notification. Google Maps notifications will now show up as Live Updates, displaying a small pill icon with an arrow indicating the direction you should go. This feature aims to make navigation easier and more seamless for users.
The lock screen notification and notifications at the top of the navigation drawer will display the direction of travel and estimated time of arrival. The Google Maps icon will be visible on the notification, allowing for a quick return to the app with a simple tap. Additionally, a link will be provided to end the navigation session if needed.
While the feature has not been widely rolled out by Google yet, it appears to be in testing phase. Users with devices running Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 have reported seeing these Live Updates notifications. It is speculated that the feature may be officially released during the December Pixel Feature Drop, so Android users can look forward to this convenient enhancement in the near future.
