Apple's highly anticipated foldable-display iPhone, rumored to be named the iPhone Fold, is set to debut in late 2026, according to industry experts. Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known source of Apple supply chain information, has recently shared insights about the upcoming device.
In a tweet posted by Kuo, he dispels rumors about the iPhone Fold featuring an in-display fingerprint sensor. Instead, he predicts that the device will come equipped with a side-mounted capacitive Touch ID sensor. Kuo mentions that Luxshare ICT is expected to supply the Touch ID module for the iPhone Fold.
With the iPhone Fold expected to have both an internal folding display and a cover screen, having a side-mounted Touch ID sensor makes practical sense. This design choice aligns with Apple's current use of side-mounted Touch ID sensors in iPads.
The iPhone Fold is anticipated to make a significant impact in the folding smartphone market upon its release, although its high price point of $2,000 to $2,500 may limit its sales volume. The device is rumored to feature a 7.8" folding screen and a 5.5" cover screen.
