TSMC Set to Begin Mass Production of 2nm Chips in Q4

Source: Date:

A recent report from DigiTimes indicates that TSMC is on track to start mass production of 2nm chips in the fourth quarter of this year. Earlier concerns about yield issues seem to have been resolved, and the company is expected to produce 45,000 to 50,000 units per month at its Baoshan and Kaohsiung plants in Taiwan by the end of 2022.

Key customers, including Apple, AMD, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Broadcom, and Intel, have already lined up to utilize TSMC's 2nm chips, with Apple reportedly securing half of all orders. Nvidia is also expected to join the list in 2027 as production capacity expands.

Apple is anticipated to integrate the 2nm process into its A19 chip for the iPhone 18 series, promising performance improvements of 10-15% compared to its 3nm chips.
