LG Display has been advocating for Apple to incorporate Tandem OLED display panels, currently used in the latest iPad Pros, into upcoming iPhone models. While Apple has not made a decision yet, there are indications that Tandem OLED technology may be featured in the 2028 iPhones. This move could potentially position LG Display as a key supplier for Apple's displays, competing with Samsung Display in the market.
The Tandem OLED panels work by stacking two OLED layers, offering improved brightness, longer display lifespan, and enhanced power efficiency. Apple is reportedly considering a "simplified tandem" approach, where only the blue subpixels are stacked in two layers while the red and green subpixels remain on a single layer. This method is seen as a cost-effective solution to address blue subpixel degradation.
While the final decision rests with Apple, LG's push for Tandem OLED tech in iPhones signals a potential shift in display technology for future Apple devices.
