Nothing Phone (3) In-Store Demo Units Displaying False Camera Samples

Source: Date:

Nothing has recently come under scrutiny due to a mishap involving the in-store demo units of the Nothing Phone (3). The pre-loaded sample images on these units, showcasing supposed captures by the community with the Phone (3), were found to be fake. These images were sourced from a stock photo marketplace called Stills, including images like a person by the window, a full glass, a rounded headlight, a spiral staircase, and a woman wearing a scarf.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that one of the images, the rounded headlight, was originally posted on snapsbyfox's Instagram account in 2023, captured with a Fujifilm X-H2S, long before the Phone (3) was even announced. Co-founder Akis Evangelidis explained that these placeholder images were intended to be replaced closer to launch but were overlooked. Steps are being taken to rectify the issue and prevent such mistakes in the future.

It was noted that a new team decision to use stock images for this launch, instead of images from older Nothing phones, led to the mix-up. Moving forward, the company is ensuring a proper review process is in place for all marketing materials.
