In a strategic move to reduce its manufacturing dependency on China, Apple has made the decision to shift the entire production of its upcoming iPhone 17 family to India for the US market. Recent reports indicate that production has already commenced in preparation for the rumored early September unveiling of the new devices.

To avoid the new tariffs imposed by the US government on Chinese-made goods, Apple has expanded its iPhone production in India across five factories, including facilities established by Tata Group and Foxconn. Tata Group's share of iPhone manufacturing in India is set to increase to approximately 50% as a result of this expansion.

This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time that all new iPhone models will be sourced from India for the US market right from their launch. The value of iPhone exports from India has seen a significant increase, reaching $7.5 billion between April and July. Additionally, plans are in place for the iPhone 17e to also be produced in India for the US market in early 2026, following the successful production of the iPhone SE in India starting in 2017.
