Samsung Introduces Voice Phishing Detection Feature in One UI 8 Phone App

Source: Date:

Voice phishing is a growing concern in the digital age, with scammers using AI technology to deceive individuals over the phone. In a bid to combat this threat, Samsung has incorporated a voice phishing detection feature in its One UI 8 phone app. The feature, currently available in South Korea, utilizes data from the National Police Agency and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to identify AI-generated voices during phone calls.

Users can enable the Voice Phishing Suspected Call Notification toggle in the Phone app settings to activate the detection feature. When communicating with an unknown number, the app will display a "detecting" popup to indicate that it is scanning for AI voices. If an AI voice is detected, the phone will alert the user through vibrations and notifications, categorizing the call as "suspected" or "detected" phishing. The call log will also retain records of identified phishing calls for reference.

While the feature is currently limited to Korea, there is hope that Samsung will collaborate with international agencies to expand its language capabilities and protect users worldwide.
