Apple Exploring Tandem OLED Displays for Future iPhones

Source: Date:

Apple is reportedly looking into the possibility of incorporating tandem OLED displays in its future iPhone models. This display technology, already featured in the iPad Pro (2024), involves layering two OLED panels to enhance brightness output and reduce power consumption.

As part of this evaluation process, Apple is considering a simplified version of the tandem OLED display. This setup would involve one panel with red and green subpixels, while the second panel would contain only blue subpixels. Suppliers like LG Display and Samsung Display are reportedly in talks with Apple regarding this new display technology.

If this technology makes its way to iPhones, it is expected to debut in 2028. While the specific iPhone model to feature tandem OLED displays is not mentioned, it is likely to be exclusive to the Pro models.
