WhatsApp Introduces Guest Chats Feature for Non-WhatsApp Users

Source: Date:

WhatsApp has rolled out a new guest chats feature that allows users to initiate conversations with individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account. This functionality, currently being tested in the WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.22.13), is expected to be integrated into the standard WhatsApp Android and iOS applications soon.

WhatsApp guest chats feature

The guest chat feature enables WhatsApp users to share a chat link via text message, email, or social media with contacts who do not possess the app or an active WhatsApp account. Upon clicking the link, the non-WhatsApp user will be directed to a platform akin to WhatsApp Web, facilitating encrypted conversations with WhatsApp users.

However, guest chats have certain limitations – users are unable to transmit media files, GIFs, voice messages, or initiate video calls. These interactions are confined within WhatsApp’s ecosystem. This new feature is likely a response to the European Union's mandate for platform interoperability, mandating seamless communication between diverse online services.
