A recent community support post has announced that Google Maps will be removing its follow feature by September 2025. This means users will no longer be able to follow others or have followers on the app. The update will be automatic, and while this change will not affect profile visibility, users will no longer need to approve or reject followers. However, users can still control who can find their contributions on the platform.
Have you ever followed anyone on Google Maps?
If you’re looking for a social environment similar to Google Maps, the company suggests checking out the Local Guides Connect community for discussions and local community events.
While the follow feature is being removed, the lists feature, where users can share or contribute to lists with notes about saved places, will remain unchanged on Google Maps. Users are advised to check and save follower-related information before the feature is discontinued, as Google has announced the removal of all follower data in the upcoming updates.
