Verizon Wireless has been ordered to pay $175 million in damages to Headwater Research for infringing patented wireless communications technology. This decision comes after a previous ruling against Samsung Electronics for similar patent violations earlier this year.
Will Verizon pay?
Greg continued to push mobile performance forward by founding Airgo Networks. Airgo's chipsets dramatically boosted Wi-Fi speed and reliability, and its innovations became the basis for all Wi-Fi radio standards starting in 2006. The company was later acquired by Qualcomm in 2007.
Verizon was under a non-disclosure agreement between 2009 and 2011, but later incorporated the innovations into its mobile devices without a license. Verizon has denied the allegations and plans to appeal the verdict, similar to its stance in a previous case against Samsung.
