Samsung Delays Release of Tri-Fold Phone Due to Uncertain Demand

Source: Date:

Samsung has put the production of its tri-fold device on hold as the company questions the demand for such a device. While originally expected to unveil the phone alongside its Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 models, Samsung's mobile business chief, TM Roh, has now suggested a potential release by the end of the year.

Roh emphasized the focus on perfecting the product and enhancing its AI capabilities. However, the company has not finalized a name for the device. Despite having a prototype design in place for some time, Samsung is hesitant to move forward with production without clear consumer interest in the tri-fold form factor.

Leaks indicate that the tri-fold phone will feature a 10-inch OLED display formed by three folding screens, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. The device is expected to sport a similar camera setup to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, including a 200MP primary camera. However, the high price point of the phone, likely nearing $3,000, and the complexities involved in production, raise concerns for Samsung.
