Recent reports indicate that Apple's much-anticipated foldable iPhone has entered the prototype testing phase, with expectations of a launch next year. Supply chain sources reveal that Apple has already developed a working prototype of its first foldable device.
The prototype testing phase is set to conclude by the end of this year, paving the way for the device to undergo Engineering Verification Testing (EVT). If all goes according to plan, the foldable iPhone could be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 series in September 2026.
In contrast, development of a foldable iPad by Apple has reportedly been paused due to challenges in manufacturing and lackluster consumer demand.

Rumors surrounding the specifications of the foldable iPhone suggest a 7.8-inch main OLED display sourced from Samsung, featuring an under-display camera and a side-mounted Touch ID scanner instead of Face ID. The device is said to have a nearly imperceptible crease and a slim profile when folded, measuring around 9–9.5mm.
Apple is rumored to employ a titanium alloy chassis and a liquid metal hinge for enhanced durability in its foldable design. However, the premium features of this device are expected to come at a high cost, with speculations pointing towards a launch price range of $2,100 - $2,300.
