Apple is setting its sights on the future of wearable technology, with leaked information revealing a roadmap that includes the development of a full XR headset and smart glasses lineup. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on at least seven different products, with multiple models expected to be released between 2027 and 2028. This ambitious plan includes three models in the Vision XR headset series and four variations of smart glasses.
Apple Targets Mainstream Success with Smart Glasses
Apple is gearing up to launch a pair of smart glasses that resemble Ray-Ban styles, featuring audio playback, cameras, voice control, gesture recognition, and AI functionalities. These glasses are expected to go into mass production in the second quarter of 2027 and could significantly impact the smart glasses market, with projected shipments exceeding 10 million units.
Enhancements Coming to Apple’s Vision Series
Apple is also updating its XR headset, Vision Pro, with a new M5 chip set for mass production in Q3 2025. A limited release is planned to bridge the gap until the launch of Vision Pro 2, slated for the second half of 2028. This next-gen model will feature a redesigned chassis, Mac-grade processor, and a more affordable price point.
Apple’s Long-Term Strategy in Wearable Computing
Kuo’s forecast indicates that Apple is heavily investing in wearable computing for the future, aiming to compete in both high-end XR and mainstream smart glasses markets. Despite a gap in new headset releases in 2026, Apple is preparing for a series of launches starting in 2027. This move aligns with similar efforts by competitors like Meta, Samsung, and Google, signaling a era of rapid innovation and improved products for consumers.
