July 9 is set to be the day when Samsung unveils its latest foldables – the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. With leaks suggesting a price increase this year, some are questioning if the new Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be able to justify its higher cost. Last year saw prices rise for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, and it seems like the trend is continuing with the upcoming models.
Samsung recently introduced the Exynos 2500 chip as a competitor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. It is expected that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be powered by this new chip. However, Samsung has reportedly faced yield issues with its 3nm chips, leading to higher production costs. This has led to speculation that the higher pricing of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may be a result of these challenges.
The leaked pricing for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 suggests a €100 increase compared to last year's model, bringing the 512 GB model to €1,425. If this price hike extends to the US market, it could translate to around $1,319. This puts the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in a higher price bracket compared to its rival, the Motorola Razr Ultra (2025), which offers a similar storage option at a lower price.
Despite the potential price premium, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may not offer significant upgrades over its predecessor. While rumors suggest a larger cover screen, other features like battery size, charging speeds, and camera improvements are expected to remain similar to the previous model. As Xiaomi prepares to launch its Mix Flip 2, competition in the foldable market is heating up, raising questions about whether the Galaxy Z Flip 7 can deliver enough value to justify its price.
With Samsung's reputation for long-term software support, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may still have an edge over its competitors. However, if the company is aiming for a higher price point, consumers will expect more in terms of features and design upgrades. Only time will tell if the Galaxy Z Flip 7 can live up to its price tag in a competitive foldable market.
