MediaTek Unveils Dimensity 8450 Chipset with Enhanced Features

Source: Date:

MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 8450, the latest addition to its chipset lineup, succeeding the Dimensity 8400 which was launched in December 2024. While the upgrades in the new chipset are incremental, they bring significant improvements under the hood. The Dimensity 8450 has already made its debut in the Oppo Reno14 Pro smartphone.

Operating on TSMC's second-generation 4nm node, the Dimensity 8450 features an octa-core CPU with 1x Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.25 GHz, 3x Cortex-A720 cores running at 3.0 GHz, and 4x Cortex-A520 cores at 2.1 GHz. The Mali-G720 MC7 GPU with 7 cores operates at 1300 MHz, similar to its predecessor, the Dimensity 8400.

Despite the similarities, the Dimensity 8450 showcases enhancements in gaming and ISP performance. The GPU now integrates the StarSpeed Engine for improved gaming experiences, while the upgraded ISP supports live-stream optimizations. Capable of handling 320MP sensors with zero-lag HDR imaging, the ISP delivers advanced image processing capabilities. The NPU 880 is also equipped with the Agentic AI Engine, enabling on-device GenAI and LLM workload support.

Additionally, the Dimensity 8450's 5G modem introduces UltraSave 3.0+ for enhanced power efficiency, reducing energy consumption significantly.

Expect to see the Dimensity 8450 powering upcoming upper mid-range smartphones in the near future.
