Samsung Prepares to Unveil Processor Choice for Galaxy S26 Lineup

Source: Date:
Samsung is under pressure to develop a powerful Exynos 2600 application processor (AP) for its upcoming Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ flagship models. In the past, Samsung had to use Snapdragon chipsets due to yield issues with its Exynos SoC, resulting in additional costs. This year, Samsung aims to resolve these problems and use its own AP for the new Galaxy lineup.

Samsung's Costly Decision to Opt for Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy S25 Line

Last year, Samsung spent $400 million to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite AP for the Galaxy S25 series instead of its Exynos 2500 SoC. To avoid repeated extra expenses, Samsung is working to improve yield at Samsung Foundry, where the AP is manufactured.
The yield percentage is crucial as it determines the number of usable chips produced. Samsung Foundry's low yield for the Exynos 2500 process has led to increased costs and potential chip shortages. Samsung's prototype Exynos 2600 AP has shown promising benchmark scores, surpassing some competitors in performance.
Reports suggest a configuration change for the Exynos 2600 AP, potentially affecting its efficiency and power consumption. Samsung must ensure sufficient yield improvements to use its AP for the Galaxy S26 and S26+ models globally, except in certain regions where Snapdragon chipsets will be used.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Galaxy in all markets. The final processor decision for the Galaxy S26 lineup is imminent, with Samsung facing a deadline to make the choice by the end of the year.
