Apple is reportedly considering using displays exclusively from Samsung and LG for the upcoming iPhone 17 models, potentially cutting ties with Chinese display manufacturer BOE. The move comes as BOE struggles to meet the display requirements set by Apple for its latest iPhones.
Currently, BOE is working on passing the display requirements for the iPhone 16 Pro, which features an LTPO OLED screen with ProMotion technology. The iPhone 17 models are expected to have even higher refresh rates, likely necessitating displays with similar capabilities.
While BOE may catch up in the future, the decision to source displays from Samsung and LG for the iPhone 17 lineup could be a significant setback for the Chinese manufacturer. Samsung, in particular, is also considering Chinese suppliers for OLED materials in a bid to reduce manufacturing costs.
