Trump's Executive Order Extends TikTok Ban Deadline by 90 Days

Source: Date:

Recently, President Trump signed an executive order further delaying the deadline for a ban on TikTok. This move gives the popular social media platform an additional 90 days to finalize a deal that will divest most of its US-based operations to American companies. The initial ban was mandated by Congress in 2024, and despite several extensions, a resolution is yet to be reached.

Various potential buyers, including Amazon and MrBeast, have expressed interest in acquiring TikTok's US operations. A deal was reportedly close to being sealed earlier this year but fell through amidst escalating tensions between the US and China. Now, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has a deadline until mid-September to navigate through regulatory hurdles and secure a suitable agreement that satisfies both US and Chinese requirements.

Despite the looming deadline, uncertainties remain regarding the final outcome of the negotiations. The political and economic implications of this deal are significant, as TikTok has become entangled in the broader US-China trade tensions. The next 90 days will be crucial for all parties involved to navigate through these complexities and reach a mutually beneficial arrangement.
