The iPhone 17 Series: A Closer Look at the 120Hz Displays

Recent rumors suggest that the upcoming iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with 120Hz displays. However, there is speculation that these displays may not feature the ProMotion technology that Apple is known for. While ProMotion typically offers a wide range of refresh rate options, it remains uncertain if the new iPhones will include this feature.

It is anticipated that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air may offer limited refresh rate options, such as 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are expected to feature LTPO panels, which can help conserve battery life by adjusting the refresh rate based on the content being displayed. Whether the non-Pro models will support features like Always-On Display remains unclear.

While LTPO technology is becoming more common in smartphones, the inclusion of 120Hz displays in the iPhone 17 series marks a significant advancement from the traditional 60Hz displays. It remains to be seen if the rumored iPhone 17e will also receive the 120Hz upgrade, as this model is expected to be released annually, with a new iteration anticipated in early 2026.
