Sony has recently made a strategic decision to collaborate with third-party manufacturers for the production of its high-end smartphones. While Sony has been outsourcing the manufacturing of its mid-range phones for a while now, this move marks a shift towards third-party manufacturing for its flagship devices as well.
A recent report indicates that this outsourcing strategy is likely a long-term decision for Sony. Production of smartphones is no longer listed at Sony's own manufacturing sites in Thailand, where historically, two sites in Thailand and one in China were involved in Sony's smartphone production.

The report also reveals that the new Xperia 1 VII is the first Sony phone to be assembled by a third-party manufacturer. Despite this change in production, there have been no apparent differences in the build quality based on reviews of the device.
