Apple faces its seventh consecutive quarter of decline in China while Xiaomi experiences a 40% surge. In response, Apple is offering significant discounts on its iPhone 16 models, including the iPhone 16 Pro, to stimulate sales. These price reductions come ahead of China's "618 festival" in June, a major mid-year shopping event. The iPhone 16 Pro (128 GB) is now priced at 5,469 yuan (~$759) instead of the usual 7,999 yuan (~$1,100). The iPhone 16 with 256 GB storage has also seen a price drop to 5,469 yuan, down from 6,999 yuan (~$970). Alibaba's Tmall is offering similar discounts, with the iPhone 16 Pro (128 GB) available for 5,499 yuan after subsidies and coupons, a discount of 2,500 yuan.

With the price adjustments for the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple may be aiming to meet requirements for local government subsidies that promote digital consumption.
