Wireless Industry Faces Impending Network Congestion in 2026

Source: Date:

The major wireless providers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, are expected to experience network congestion starting in 2026. As the demand for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services continues to grow, these companies are at risk of running out of capacity on their networks.

According to analysts, networks may start getting congested before 2030, with a quarter of traffic demand unable to be met during peak hours by 2027. CTIA has issued warnings about the impending spectrum shortage, with only 27% of peak demand expected to be met by 2035.

Despite the growing usage and data consumption by FWA customers, the wireless providers are already utilizing a significant portion of their network capacity. With the looming congestion challenges, the industry may need to explore new solutions to alleviate network strain and meet increasing demand.
