Huawei has taken a significant step towards reducing its dependence on Western technologies by unveiling its very own computer operating system - HarmonyOS PC. This new operating system, also known as Hongmeng Computer in the Chinese market, marks Huawei's foray into the realm of PC software.
During the HarmonyOS Computer Technology and Ecosystem Communication Event, Zhu Dongdong, Huawei's President of tablets and PCs, introduced HarmonyOS PC, which is built on three main pillars - HarmonyOS Base, HarmonyOS Ecosystem, and HarmonyOS Experience.

The Base of HarmonyOS PC includes the HarmonyOS kernel, the Ark Engine for graphics and UI performance, the StarShield architecture for security, and other essential backend components.
In the HarmonyOS Ecosystem, users can access over 150 exclusive apps and integration for more than 2000 universal ecosystem apps. The system also comes with an integrated WPS office and other essential applications for basic computing needs.
Furthermore, HarmonyOS PC offers support for more than 1000 external devices, including 800 standard peripherals and 20 device categories like keyboards, mice, and monitors. Users can also connect with over 200 secondary devices such as printers and scanners.

Moreover, HarmonyOS PC boasts deep AI integration and offers a seamless user experience. The user interface features a dock of icons at the bottom center of the homescreen, reminiscent of Apple's macOS.
Huawei has announced that HarmonyOS PC will be available on May 19, showcasing the company's commitment to innovation and independence in the tech industry.
