Microsoft Unveils New Surface Models: Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 13

Microsoft introduced its latest lineup of Surface devices, including the versatile 2-in-1 Surface Pro 12 and the compact Surface Laptop 13. These Arm-powered devices are equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus chip and run on Windows 11, offering a seamless user experience. Additionally, they feature Microsoft's Copilot+ PC suite for enhanced productivity.

Surface Pro 12

The Surface Pro 12 boasts a 12-inch LCD touchscreen with a high resolution of 2,196 x 1,464px and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. It retains the iconic Surface 3:2 aspect ratio and comes with stylus input support via the included Surface Slim Pen, which conveniently attaches and charges magnetically on the device. The camera setup includes a 1080p front-facing camera with Windows Hello for secure logins and a 10MP rear camera for capturing moments.

Noteworthy features of the Surface Pro 12 include an adjustable kickstand and detachable keyboard, providing flexibility in usage. The device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus chip (8 cores) with 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB. With no vents for cooling, the device ensures a quiet operation. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, although cellular connectivity is not available in this model.

Weighing just 686 grams and measuring 7.8 mm in thickness, the Surface Pro 12 features an aluminum chassis for durability. It is equipped with 2 USB-C ports supporting USB 3.2 and DP 1.4a protocols, while the magnetic Surface Connect charging port has been omitted. Microsoft claims a battery life of up to 12 hours of web usage and 16 hours of local video playback for the device.

The Surface Pro 12 is available for pre-order starting at $800/€979/£799 for the 256GB storage variant and comes in stylish Platinum, Violet, and Ocean color options. Deliveries are set to begin on May 20.

Surface Laptop 13

Adding to its lineup, Microsoft introduces the Surface Laptop 13, a sleek and compact model in the Surface Laptop series. The 13-inch device features a vibrant LCD touchscreen with 1,920 x 1,280 px resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. While it sports a 1080p webcam, Windows Hello functionality is not included for quick and secure logins.

The Surface Laptop 13 comes with an aluminum chassis and weighs 1.22 kg, offering portability without compromising on performance. It shares the same Snapdragon X Plus chip with 8 cores, paired with 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB for smooth multitasking.

In terms of connectivity, the laptop features 1 USB-A (3.1), 2 USB-C ports (USB 4 and DisplayPort 1.4a), and a headphone jack. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 for seamless wireless connections. Microsoft promises a battery life of up to 16 hours of web usage and 23 hours of local video playback for the Surface Laptop 13.

Priced starting at $900/€1,099/£899 for the 256GB variant, the Surface Laptop 13 comes in elegant Ocean, Violet, and Platinum color options. Customers can expect deliveries to commence on May 20.
