Apple has decided to forego the introduction of a new anti-reflective coating on the displays of the iPhone 17 Pro, as reported by 9to5Mac. Due to production scaling issues, the anticipated scratch-resistant display solution will not be featured in the latest iPhone models.
Despite the existing oleophobic coating that provides fingerprint resistance, Apple's decision not to pursue the anti-reflective display option could leave the iPhone 17 Pro at a disadvantage compared to competitors. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra boasts a Gorilla Glass Armor display panel that reduces reflections by up to 75%, enhancing visibility in bright conditions and color accuracy.
While Apple has utilized nano-texture displays in other devices to minimize glare, such as in the Mac and iPad Pro, it remains uncertain whether this technology will be incorporated into future iPhone models. The decision to abandon the anti-reflective display for the iPhone 17 Pro raises questions about Apple's display innovation strategy moving forward.
