Apple CEO Tim Cook is reportedly feeling "extremely anxious" amid burgeoning issues with the production of the iPhone 17. The company has encountered a significant shortage of low thermal expansion coefficient (low-CTE) fiberglass cloth, a crucial component for manufacturing its next-generation smartphones. Without this material, the production of the iPhone 17 line remains stalled.
Other industry players are allegedly taking steps to mitigate the effects of these shortages. Apple is reportedly pressing its supply chain partners daily to rectify the situation, emphasizing the urgent need for the iPhone 17 to launch on schedule. This release not only represents the company's latest flagship offering but also signifies an important transition into a new era for Apple.
The iPhone 17 is set to showcase a refreshed design, particularly in the Pro models, featuring a more prominent camera island inspired by the design of the Google Pixel 9 and its predecessors.

Reports indicate that the upcoming iPhone 17 launch will feature a significant change, with the retirement of the iPhone Plus model. It will be replaced by the iPhone 17 Air, a sleeker variant designed specifically for users who prioritize style and aesthetics.

Adding to Apple's challenges, the company is concerned about the implications of tariffs. Although there is a temporary exemption, it appears unlikely that Apple can swiftly relocate production out of China. Even if they can, any new locations will still face tariffs—albeit reduced—which means Apple may have to absorb costs or raise prices. Given these pressing issues, it remains to be seen if Apple can successfully launch the iPhone 17 series this September at a competitive price.
