According to a post on Microsoft's Community forum, CPU usage spikes significantly while typing in Outlook, returning to normal levels once typing stops.
Microsoft has acknowledged the bug in a support document, providing steps to help alleviate the issue:
- Open a Command Prompt, select Run as administrator
- Paste the command: reg add HKLMSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftoffice16.0commonofficeupdate /v updatebranch /t REG_SZ /d SemiAnnual
- Hit enter
- Go to File, then Office Account, then Update Options, and select "Update Now" to switch to the Semi-Annual Channel.
Although users may have other troubles to deal with, addressing this Outlook bug can help alleviate overheating issues while using the software.
