In a remarkable showcase of innovation and artistry, the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI) has unveiled four extraordinary short films filmed on the iPhone 16 Pro Max and expertly edited on M4 Max-powered MacBook Pros. As part of the second edition of the MAMI Select: Filmed on iPhone Program, this initiative continues to empower budding creators in the Indian film industry, highlighting their work and the technological advances that make such projects possible.

The inaugural MAMI Select program received rave reviews, with two of its shorts winning honors at the 2025 Critics’ Choice Awards India. This year, four talented filmmakers—Amrita Bagchi, Rohin Raveendran Nair, Chanakya Vyas, and Shalini Vijayakumar—have been chosen for this esteemed program and will receive mentorship from acclaimed personalities such as writer, director, and actor Konkona Sen Sharma, along with other industry veterans.

“Using Apple products for filming and editing provides filmmakers with a distinct edge due to the speed and convenience it offers,” says director Motwane, known for his impactful works in film and television.

Among the featured filmmakers, Amrita Bagchi is working on a psychological thriller titled Tinctoria, inspired by the indigo revolt in Bengal in 1859. Utilizing the iPhone 16 Pro Max's Cinematic mode, she aims to create a captivating opening montage while also leveraging its 4K 120fps video capabilities.

Rohin Raveendran Nair, who serves as director, writer, and cinematographer for his short film Kovarty, is pushing creative boundaries by filming from the unique perspective of a typewriter, presenting a love story that blends magical realism. He has cleverly chosen to film these scenes in a 4:3 aspect ratio to evoke the feeling of paper, while broader landscape segments will be shot in a cinematic 2:1 ratio.
