Wear OS Introduces Hands-Free Assistant Activation with "Raise to Talk"

Source: Date:

In a move aimed at enhancing user experience and convenience, Google is reportedly developing a new feature for Wear OS dubbed "Raise to Talk." This feature will allow users to interact with their smartwatches without needing to vocalize "Hey Google," making voice interactions smoother and more intuitive.

Discovered in the latest version of the Google app (16.14.39), Raise to Talk allows users to simply raise their wrist and begin speaking to Google Assistant—or Gemini—removing the awkwardness of voice activation. This signals a significant upgrade for Android watch users looking for seamless interaction.
If you're familiar with Apple Watch's "Raise to Speak" feature, this new capability from Google may seem reminiscent. Likely, Google will include a toggle option to activate or deactivate the feature according to user preference.
Wear OS Feature Update
Currently, it is uncertain whether Raise to Talk will be available on all Wear OS smartwatches or if it will be exclusive to the Pixel Watch series. However, given Google's history of expanding valuable features beyond its own devices, there is a possibility that the feature could also find its way to popular models like Samsung's Galaxy Watch.
