Oppo has officially launched its highly anticipated flagship smartphone for 2025, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra. Building on the successes of its predecessor, the X7 Ultra, this new device boasts a refined design, upgraded performance, and significant advancements in camera technology. Accompanying this launch are the Oppo Find X8s and X8s+, details of which will be shared in a separate article.

The Find X8 Ultra stands out with its thinner profile of just 8.78mm, making it the slimmest flagship cameraphone currently available. Despite its reduced thickness, the device is more durable, featuring an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, as well as IP69 certification for protection against high-pressure water jets. Oppo has also highlighted its SGS five-star drop resistance rating.

The 6.82-inch 10-bit LTPO OLED display remains largely unchanged from its predecessor, offering a resolution of 3,168x1,440 pixels, a variable refresh rate ranging from 1-120Hz, and an impressive peak brightness of 1,600 nits.

At the core of this device lies the powerful 8-core Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, complemented by up to 16GB of LPDDR5X-9600 RAM and storage options reaching up to 1TB with UFS 4.1 technology. The smartphone operates on ColorOS 15, which is built on the latest Android 15. Furthermore, the upgraded 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery marks a nearly 20% increase from the previous model and supports 100W SUPERVOOC wired charging, as well as 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging.

Color options for the Find X8 Ultra include Matte Black, Pure White, and Shell Pink, each featuring a sleek matte finish across the metal and glass components.

New to the device are two physical buttons: a customizable Shortcut button on the top left for various functions and a Quick button situated at the bottom right, primarily designated for camera controls, akin to those previously found on the Oppo Find X8 Pro.

Camera improvements take center stage with upgraded dual 50MP periscope zoom capabilities. While the main camera stays the same—a 23mm f/1.8 unit with the 50MP 1-inch Sony LYT900 sensor—the ultrawide angle has seen a downgrade on paper. However, a new True Chroma camera has been introduced to help ensure accurate color reproduction in varied lighting conditions. This is complemented by Hasselblad-tuned processing.

The periscope cameras include a 3x zoom with a larger LYT700 1/1.56-inch sensor and a brighter f/2.1 lens, along with a 6x 135mm telephoto lens that boasts a 1/1.95-inch LYT600 sensor with an impressive f/3.1 lens. The ultrawide camera now features a 15mm f/2.0 lens paired with a smaller Samsung JN5 sensor, while the front camera remains a 21mm f/2.4 unit with a LYT506 sensor.
