Xiaomi Initiates Android 16 Developer Preview for Xiaomi 15 and 14T Pro
Xiaomi is taking an early step into the world of Android 16, releasing the Developer Preview for two of its flagship smartphones. This proactive approach allows developers to test their apps with the latest features and APIs before the official rollout.
Android 16 has reached the Platform Stability milestone with its Beta 3, and the Xiaomi 15, initially launched with Android 15, along with the Xiaomi 14T Pro, which debuted with Android 14, are the selected devices for this developer program. These models showcase the capabilities of both Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite and MediaTek's Dimensity 9300+ chipsets.
For those interested in participating in the beta testing, there are specific prerequisites. The Xiaomi 15 must be updated to OS2.0.109.0.VOCMIXM or later, while the 14T Pro should be on OS2.0.103.0.VNNMIXM or beyond.
Updating the software can be done in two ways. Users can opt for the local update feature, which involves downloading the ROMs from Xiaomi’s Android Beta page and installing it through the device's settings. Alternatively, the Fastboot method is available but requires an unlocked bootloader and will wipe all data, so backing up is essential beforehand.
An integrated Android Beta Feedback app allows users to report any software issues directly to Xiaomi for quick resolutions.
Historically, Google has rolled out its Android updates to Pixel devices around mid-October, and Xiaomi has previously made swift announcements and updates following Google’s releases. The stable version of Android 16 is anticipated to be available in May.
