Samsung Enhances SmartThings with Health Integration and Expanded Device Support

Samsung is taking SmartThings to the next level with an innovative update that integrates Samsung Health and broadens compatibility with various devices, thanks to the adoption of the new Matter 1.4 protocol.

With this integration, users of Galaxy Watches (Watch4 and later) and Galaxy Rings can seamlessly track their sleep patterns, allowing SmartThings automation to initiate routines based on their sleeping and waking times.

For instance, as you drift off to sleep, SmartThings can initiate actions such as dimming lights, shutting off the TV, and adjusting the room temperature. When it’s time to wake up, SmartThings can open the curtains and turn on the TV. The system also integrates with Samsung TV Plus on the 2025 Samsung TVs, enabling your "wake up" routine to switch to the morning news channel automatically.

SmartThings Integration

Samsung Health’s integration goes beyond basic functionalities; users can access a comprehensive sleep environment report through the Galaxy Now Briefing each morning. This report includes insights on temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide levels, and light intensity, provided that the relevant sensors are part of the SmartThings network.

The adoption of the Matter 1.4 protocol significantly expands SmartThings’ device support, accommodating various appliances including water heaters, heat pumps, solar chargers, and batteries among others. For additional details on Matter 1.4, click here.

This update also brings a new broadcasting feature to SmartThings-connected speakers, allowing users to record short voice messages that can be transmitted to different speakers, whether at home or away.

In 2023, Samsung unveiled the Calm Onboarding process for its devices, which is now also available for third-party SmartThings products purchased via Samsung.com. This user-friendly process simplifies device acquisition, providing real-time purchase and delivery updates, along with a step-by-step guide for setting up the device once it arrives.

Initially launched in South Korea, Calm Onboarding for third-party devices will soon be accessible in other nations with available IoT marketplaces. Meanwhile, the onboarding process for Samsung products is currently active in 14 countries including Korea, the United States, parts of Europe, Australia, and Brazil.
