Price Forecast for iPhone 16 Pro Max: Expected 29% Increase in US Market

A new report from UBS has shed light on the expected retail price increases for Apple's flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max, especially for the 1TB model. With ongoing trade tensions and the cost of materials rising, tech enthusiasts and consumers alike are anxious about what the new pricing may mean for their wallets.

Currently, the 1TB version of the iPhone 16 Pro Max is priced at $1,600 in the US. Previous projections had suggested price hikes of around 40%, estimating the cost could soar to as high as $2,300 for this model, due in part to tariffs imposed on goods imported from China. However, UBS offers a more tempered scenario, forecasting that a 1TB iPhone 16 Pro Max could retail for approximately $2,062, which signifies a 29% increase from its existing price. These calculations are based on a sustained 54% tariff on products manufactured in China, although the situation remains fluid as President Trump has previously hinted at tariff rates reaching 104% as retaliation against China.

On the other hand, Apple has also begun manufacturing some iPhone models in India, where devices exported to the US would incur a 26% tariff. For instance, this means that a $1,000 iPhone 16 Pro (128GB) would see a more modest 12% increase, bringing the price to $1,120. It is important to note that tariffs apply to the manufacturing costs rather than the retail price itself.

In Vietnam, where some Apple products like the Watch Ultra 2 are manufactured, consumers could see a price increase of 19%, from $800 to $950, given the imposed 46% tariff there. It's crucial to understand that the extent of these price increases largely hinges on whether Apple chooses to pass these costs onto consumers or absorb some of the impact, as they did previously when faced with a 10% tariff on Chinese imports.

Additional elements considered in the UBS analysis include the rising costs of AI servers manufactured in Taiwan, expecting a price surging by 27%. Although consumers may not purchase AI servers directly, these components are vital for Apple's advancements in integrating AI across their devices, including iPhones, Macs, and various other products.
