Google Pixel Watch 3’s Life-Saving "Loss of Pulse Detection" Now Available in the US

Google has officially rolled out the groundbreaking "Loss of Pulse Detection" feature for the Pixel Watch 3 in the United States, marking a major leap in wearable health technology. Originally announced in February and delayed until now, this feature could be a literal lifesaver for users in critical situations.

The Pixel Watch 3 has finally received FDA clearance for its advanced health monitoring capability, which automatically detects cardiac arrest or respiratory failure and contacts emergency services if the wearer is unresponsive. This follows its successful debut in Europe last year and comes after the recent April 2025 bugfix update.

While it’s unclear whether the feature is enabled through the watch’s system update or via the Personal Safety app update, users will need:

  • Latest version of the Personal Safety app on their Pixel Watch 3
  • Pixel Watch app version 3.4 or higher on their paired smartphone

How It Works

The innovative system combines multiple sensors and AI algorithms to monitor for life-threatening situations:

  • Continuously tracks heart rhythm using advanced sensors
  • Analyzes movement patterns through accelerometer data
  • First attempts to alert the wearer through vibrations and sounds
  • If no response, automatically contacts 911 with location data

Google emphasizes this isn’t a medical-grade device and shouldn’t replace professional monitoring for those with known heart conditions. However, for sudden emergencies, it could provide crucial intervention when every second counts.

The feature is rolling out gradually starting today, with full availability expected within weeks. Users can activate it through the "Safety & emergency" section in the companion app.
