Trump grants TikTok extension amidst tariff tensions with China

President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for the sale of TikTok to U.S. owners, giving Chinese company ByteDance an additional 75 days to divest the popular video app. The move comes amid escalating tariff tensions between the U.S. and China, with a deal to sell TikTok to American investors reportedly falling through due to tariff increases on U.S. imports from China.
The U.S. has been pushing for the sale of TikTok to remove control from China and address concerns about data privacy and propaganda. Several American companies, including Oracle, AppLovin, Walmart, and Amazon, have expressed interest in acquiring the app, but negotiations have faced challenges.
Despite the setback, U.S. TikTok users now have at least 75 more days to enjoy the app, with hopes that the extension will allow for continued negotiations between the U.S. and China regarding the sale of TikTok.
