China has swiftly responded to the recent tariffs imposed by the United States with their own set of reciprocal measures. As of April 10, China has announced a 34% tariff on all imports from the US in retaliation. This move comes after the Trump administration's introduction of "Liberation Day" tariffs, which China has condemned as unilateral bullying.
In addition to the tariffs, China has also restricted the export of rare earth minerals that are crucial in various industries such as semiconductors and electric vehicles. Furthermore, China has banned 11 US defense and drone companies from trading in the country and added 16 US companies to its export control list.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has taken the matter to the World Trade Organization, claiming that the US tariffs violate WTO rules. This escalation in trade tensions comes at a time when the US exports billions of dollars worth of goods to China.
