AT&T has announced a significant expansion of its FirstNet 5G network, providing enhanced coverage to over 7 million public safety connections. This expansion includes adding 20,000 square miles of terrestrial wireless coverage in the past year alone, effectively doubling the size of New Jersey. With coverage spanning urban, suburban, rural, and tribal areas, the FirstNet network now covers nearly 3 million square miles nationwide, surpassing the coverage of rival wireless networks by 250,000 square miles on average.
AT&T has partnered with the First Responder Network Authority to create this extensive network, which includes macro coverage along with in-building and on-the-go solutions. These dedicated connectivity options cater to public safety agencies and essential services such as utilities and hospitals.
AT&T has also tested crucial capabilities like push-to-talk services, recognizing the need for reliable communication beyond simple text messaging. Additionally, the introduction of an advanced router has expanded the range of FirstNet MegaRange coverage solutions, with AT&T claiming to deliver "6x the signal power of other carriers."
