Apple Faces Hefty $160 Million Fine in EU Over App Advertising Dominance

Source: Date:

Apple is once again in hot water with the European Union, as regulators slap the tech giant with a €150 million (around $162 million) fine for allegedly abusing its dominance in mobile app advertising. The fine comes as a result of Apple's App Tracking Transparency feature, which has sparked complaints from advertising trade groups claiming it has hindered their access to user data and increased the cost of targeted ads.

The French Competition Authority's ruling follows a complaint from industry players who argue that Apple's ATT feature has made it more difficult to run targeted ads on iPhone and iPad devices. While Apple has expressed disappointment with the decision, the company has not been mandated to make specific changes to the feature at this time.

With ongoing investigations in other European countries, including Germany, Italy, Poland, and Romania, Apple's troubles in the EU may be far from over. French regulators have emphasized that it is up to Apple to ensure compliance with antitrust regulations, which could pose challenges for the tech giant in the coming months.
