Verizon Launches Innovative Command and Control Trailer for First Responders' Drones

Verizon has recently unveiled its groundbreaking Remote Aviation Vehicle Enabling Network, aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of first responders during emergencies. This innovative solution, a command and communications trailer, is designed to facilitate unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operations in critical scenarios, underscoring Verizon's commitment to supporting those who serve in times of crisis.

Equipped with dual 5G small cells, multi-layered satellite redundancy, and options for green power, the new trailer allows first responders to establish an on-site communication network during incidents. This advanced technology enables real-time situational awareness, crucial for effective mapping and coordination in emergency situations.

Verizon Frontline’s drone operators across the United States will benefit from a suite of features, including 360-degree PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras that come with night vision capabilities and live monitoring tools, ensuring comprehensive oversight during critical missions.

Recently, Verizon found itself in a heated dispute with T-Mobile over advertising claims, with T-Mobile contesting Verizon's assertion that it “puts first responders first.” The matter was brought before the National Advertising Division (NAD), which concluded that Verizon's ads do not imply exclusivity in supporting first responders. Following this ruling, Verizon expressed satisfaction, allowing them to proceed with their promotional strategy.

While competing carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T also cater to first responders—T-Mobile through its Connecting Heroes program and AT&T with its FirstNet initiative—disputes over advertising claims are prevalent in the wireless industry. Recently, Verizon challenged T-Mobile’s statement about being the "first and only" carrier to provide satellite messaging via its partnership with Starlink, but the NAD upheld T-Mobile's claim as accurate.
